  What is bridge rectifier

  Bridge rectifier is to put several rectifying diodes into a box to form a complete rectifying circuit. When power further increases, or when polyphase rectifier is required due other reasons, three-phase rectifier is put forward. Three-phase rectifier is divided into three-phase full-wave bridge rectifier and three-phase half-wave bridge rectifier. Selecting bridge rectifier demands consideration of rectifying circuit and working voltage. For those rectifying circuits that require high output voltage, a capacitor is needed while those have low requirement on output voltage, capacitor is not essential.

  The operational principle of bridge rectifier

  As mentioned above, bridge rectifier is four rectifying diodes sealed in a box, and it can be divided into full bridge rectifier and half bridge rectifier. Full bridge rectifier is to pack four diodes together while half bridge rectifier packs two. Two half bridge rectifier can be combined to form a complete bridge rectifier but only a half bridge rectifier can also form a full-wave rectifying circuit with a center tap on voltage transformer. Bridge rectifier is usually applied in full-wave rectifying circuit.

  The rectified current of a full bridge rectifier varies from 0.5A, 1A, 1.5A, 2A, 2.5A, 3A, 5A, 10A to 20A. Its maximum reverse voltage varies from 25V, 50V, 100V, 200V, 300V, 400V, 500V, 600V, 800V to 1000V.

  The common domestic full bridge rectifier is QL Series and the imports are RB Series and RS Series.

  The operational principle of silicon bridge rectifier

  Silicon bridge rectifiers group is a device that combined by silicon rectifying components. Due to different phases of alternating current, silicon bridge rectifiers can be separated into single-phase bridge rectifier and three-phase bridge rectifier. This device has two types of constructions. One is connecting the chips at the requirement to be a bridge and sealed in a box which later covered by epoxy resin, plastic or metal. The radiator sticks with the box. The sealed bridge rectifier group has AC input terminals and DC input terminals. The advantages of this kind of construction include tiny bulk, great convenience, easy installment and so on. The disadvantage is some of the components could be hard to replace when they go wrong.

  The other one is to fix the rectifying components on the radiator and then connect them to be a bridge. This kind of construction has the merits such as well tightness, great convenience and tiny bulk. The former construction is usually used in low power bridge rectifier group and the latter one is in middle to high power bridge rectifier group.
